Personnel  from Shepherds, Troutman, Statesville and Cool Springs fire departments were alerted to a structure fire on Starlight Road near Statesville about 6:29 a.m. on Thursday.

Shepherds firefighters were first on the scene and transmitted a fully involved structure fire with all occupants accounted for. Crews stretched two hose lines to the home and an exterior operation was transmitted due to the heavy fire conditions.

Additional tankers were called to the scene from multiple departments and South Iredell firefighters responded with their air van. The fire, which destroyed the structure, was brought under control at 7:13 a.m.

A dog was killed in the fire, but no other injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

The American Red Cross was notified to assist the family.
