Power Cross Ministries is rallying community support for one of its families.
The Garcia family — long-time friends and supporters of Power Cross — was the beneficiary of a fundraiser on Thursday night.
Anthony Garcia, a 2024 graduate, was a student member of the ministry, and his dad Eddie helped coach youth sports. While Anthony was participating, his mother Judie volunteered and served in many ways. Right now, she is fighting stage-four lung cancer, which has spread to her spine, right leg, right hip, left arm, left eye, and brain.
Judie was a worship leader at Grace Covenant Church who used her talents to serve Power Cross, Jeff Storment, the nonprofit’s founder said.
“She sang at all of our tent revivals,” he said.
For the event, held at Power Cross Cafe, the ministry prepared around 200 lasagna dinners for dine-in or take-out. All of the proceeds will go towards supporting the Garcia family.
“This will help them pay their mortgage so they can completely support Judie for the next few months,” Storment said.
He is grateful for the volunteers and ones who donated.
“The community has really stepped up,” he said. “At 6 a.m., I was handed envelopes with the first donations, then at 7 a.m. some men from my Bible study contributed. Also, a miracle happened yesterday with another organization with lasagna noodles showed up mysteriously. God was pouring His help down through the night.”
Storment is thankful for God’s blessings.
“He took care of a few months of living expenses for the Garcia family! Our community really showed up and supported in a time of need,” he said.
Storment and his wife Natalie covered all of the costs of the event so all of the proceeds when to the family.
“God is Great!” he said.
