John Edward Sanders Jr., 80, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on February 6, 2025, at his home. Affectionally called “Peter,”  he was born August 23, 1944, in Rowan County to the late John Sanders and Vernor Castle Hill Sanders.

Peter owned and operated a wrecker towing and hauling service before his retirement.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by siblings, Oneil Sanders, Ricky Sanders, and Vivian Worth; and two grandchildren.

Peter is survived by his children, Dallas Cornelius, Debra Walls, John Edward Sanders III, Alicia Sanders Cherry (Michael), and Mandisa Hardy; siblings, Shirley Sherrill, Marie Williams, Marlin Sanders, and Claudette Byers; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, February 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Terry Beatty officiating. Burial will follow the service in Green Acres Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Iredell County and to Dr. Jessica Fox for the special and loving care that Peter received. Also thanks to Dudley Home Health, and a very heartfelt thanks to his nephew, Jermaine Sanders, for taking such loving care of Peter.
