A suspect in a shooting that occurred last month at the intersection of Wiggins Road and Mount Ulla Highway near Mooresville has been apprehended by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of John Dexter Wines, 33, of Mount Ulla Highway, Mooresville, in a news release Monday. Wines faces numerous charges, including felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony possession of a firearm by a felon, in in connection with a shooting that occurred about 3:15 a.m. on January 16.
ICSO deputies located Wines and took him into custody on February 6, Campbell said.
After ICSO deputies and Iredell County EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene of the early morning shooting, he victim was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to an earlier news release.
The investigation revealed that shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. Wines followed the victim’s vehicle, blocked it at an intersection, and initiated an altercation before shooting the victim and fleeing the scene, Campbell said.
Wines is being held without bond in the Iredell County Detention Center.
