Mrs. Lula Belle Steele, 85, of Hiddenite, N.C., the wife of the late Raymond Steele, passed away Monday, February 3, 2025. She was born on October 6, 1939, in Wilkes County, the daughter of the late John and Lela Brown Swaim.

Lula Belle owned Steele’s Amoco in Hiddenite and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed all crafts, especially sewing, along with cooking, watching her granddaughter’s clogging competitions, and spending time with her great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Steele; two sisters, Ethel Higgins and Lolene Stinson; and two brothers, Clay and Bud Swaim.

Those left to cherish and honor Lula Belle’s memories include her two daughters, Gail Poteat (Jerry) of Granite Falls, and Linda Church (Bill) of Lincolnton; her granddaughter, Heather Vassey (Clay) of Seneca, S.C.; her three great-grandchildren, Hudson (9), Gunnar (5), and Mackechney (3); and her sister, Etta Mae Johnson of North Wilkesboro.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 17, 2025, in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Hiddenite Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service.
