Rachel Caldwell Barnhardt, 85, died peacefully surrounded by family on February 17, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

She was married to the late Ernest Wayne Barnhardt for 60 years was and the daughter of the late Dora Hartsoe Caldwell and Charlie Fields Caldwell.

She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Johnson (David) of Statesville and Christine Justice (Greg) of Pikeville, Ky., and son Gary Barnhardt (Irma) of Statesville. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Wayne Barnhardt Jr. and Charles “Chuck” Wiley Barnhardt. She was also preceded by two brothers, Richard Jackson Caldwell and Glenn Everett Caldwell; and three sisters, Connie Louise Laforce, Virginia Adell Deal and Joyce Caldwell Laws.

At her request there will be no formal services provided.

Memorial donations in Rachel’s memory may be sent to St. Jude Medical Research Hospital.
