Janice Reavis Mitchell, 74, of Union Grove, N.C., passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Iredell Memorial Hospital following an unexpected illness.

Jan was born August 20, 1950, to Hal Monroe Reavis Sr. and Mary Cascaddon Reavis in Iredell County. She graduated from Statesville Senior High School.

She worked for over 10 years at Iredell-Statesville Schools and then worked with her work family at Sub Express for 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Colin Mitchell; and a brother, Hal “Buster” Reavis Jr.

She is survived by her sons, David (Melissa), and Randy (Rebecca); four grandchildren, Justin, Andrew, Allyson, and Hannah Mitchell; and three sisters, Rickie Miller (Doyte), Joyce Walker, and Jewell Jordan. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jack Mitchell, and a sister-in-law, Mary Alice Smith (Richard), and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jan was a wonderful mom, mother-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend. She had a great sense of humor and a kind spirit. She will truly be missed.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Nicholson Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Grassy Knob Baptist Church in Union Grove.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grassy Knob Cemetery Fund in her memory.

The family would like to thank the First Floor nursing staff and ER Department staff of Iredell Memorial Hospital who took such good care of her.

Also, the family would like to thank the staff at Nicholson Funeral Home.
