Joseph Todd Carter, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
He was born on October 24, 1966, in Statesville, N.C. He was the son of the late Joseph Hollingsworth Carter III and Jane Kennedy Carter, who survives. Todd attended Statesville High School. He later moved to Baton Rouge, La., where he spent several years enjoying the lively music and festivities there. He also enjoyed football and became a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan. In 2006, he returned to Statesville to work, spend time with loved ones, and reconnect with old friends.
Todd was an avid musician. He is remembered for the witty and fun songs he wrote and performed for his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling to see his favorite bands in concert and would host community jam sessions in his garage. He also wrote wonderful poetry and told hilarious jokes. He was so much fun to be with and could make anyone laugh.
Todd loved his children dearly. His grandchildren adored him. They will never forget his living room headstands, the uproarious pillow fights, days at the lake, and dressing up together for Trick-or- Treating. Many wonderful times were had in his company. His laughter was contagious. Todd was also a devoted son, spending his final days with his mother, caring for her and their home.
Todd’s untimely death leaves a void in the lives of his dear loved ones. In addition to his mother, he leaves behind his two children, Joseph Colby Carter (Crystal) (mother Allison) of Burlington and Aiden Joseph Carter (mother Shawna) of Statesville; three bonus children, Kaytlyn Hope Harrelson of Charlotte, Kamden Allen Collins of Hamptonville, and Kendall Collins Hoots (Zachary) of Union Grove; two grandchildren, Lena Jane Carter and Joseph Elias Carter; two siblings, David Kennedy Carter (Kathey) and Kimberly Brooke Johnson (Roy); three nieces, Alexis Jade Johnson, Kaylee Brooke Johnson, and Emma Claire Johnson; one nephew, Zachary Noah Johnson; and many special aunts, uncles, and cousins. His family and friends will cherish his memory forever.
