Tommy Eugene Shook, 57, of Taylorsville, N.C., peacefully entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Atrium Wake Forest Baptist – Wilkes Medical Center. In the days leading to his passing, he was lovingly surrounded by family, a testament to the deep connections he cherished throughout his life.

Born on September 19, 1967, in Alexander County, Tommy was the beloved son of the late Charles “Gene” Shook Sr. and Elizabeth “Libby” Shook. From an early age, Tommy displayed a zest for life, which extended into his younger years when he excelled at baseball. His skill and passion for the game earned him numerous tournament victories and awards, memories he carried with pride.

For over 30 years, Tommy worked in the furniture industry, perfecting the art of eight-way hand-tied suspension systems—an intricate skill passed down from his father. This meticulous craftsmanship is renowned as a hallmark of quality fine furniture, and Tommy approached his work with dedication and pride.

Tommy is survived by his devoted partner of 44 years, Sarah Pennell, who stood by his side with unwavering love and support. His legacy also lives on in his sisters, Lori Shook and Gina Shook-Deal of Newton, N.C., and his brother, Charles “Charlie” Shook Jr. of Taylorsville. He is fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews who brought joy to his life.

Tommy’s journey was marked by a spirit that defied convention and celebrated authenticity. His vibrant spirit and the silent lessons he imparted leave an indelible mark on those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, in the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Tony Wilson will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, where he was a lifelong member.
