A Taylorsville man has been arrested and charged with felony statutory rape following an in investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Charles Andrew Harmon, 60, of Old Charlotte Road, Taylorsville, in a news release Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office began investigating on January 24 after receiving a report from the Rowan County Department of Social Services regarding a possible sexual offense involving a child.

The incident was reported to have occurred in Iredell County in late 2023. The case was assigned to Detective E. Lane of the ICSO Special Victims Unit for further investigation.

During the course of the investigation, Detective Lane conducted witness interviews, gathered relevant documents, and facilitated a forensic interview with the juvenile.

Based on the evidence, Detective Lane obtained a warrant charging Harmon with one count of Felony First-Degree Statutory Rape. Harmon was taken into custody on March 1 and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate Watkins ordered him be held without bond.

This investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming, the sheriff said.

According to the ICSO, Harmon’s criminal record includes the following charges: Misdemeanor Child Abuse and Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun.
