Dorothy Jarvis Tucker, 87, passed from shadow into light on March 11, 2025. She left the limitations of this world and entered into a limitless heaven to be with her Savior.
A true middle child, Dorothy was the seventh of 13 born to Clarence and Polly Mae (Nicholson) Jarvis of Union Grove, N.C., in northern Iredell County. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Ferriaola and Carolyn Morgan, and by three brothers, Wayne Jarvis, Ronald Jarvis, and Donald Jarvis.
Upon graduating from high school, Dorothy chose a career in nursing. During her nurses training, Dorothy eloped to South Carolina to marry Earl P. Tucker Jr. Upon returning to Statesville, she and Earl reared two children.
She served as a nurse at Davis Hospital in Statesville for more than 40 years. Her connection to Davis Hospital began even before her nursing career. Dorothy left Pfeiffer College to attend nursing school at Davis Hospital. Dorothy was wholly dedicated to Davis Hospital and her nursing career. She was also devoted to her beloved Carolina Tar Heels.
Keeping her memory in their heart and passing her legacy to future generations are her son, Robert Forest Tucker and wife Donna of St. Augustine, Fla.; her daughter Suzanne Tucker Boggs and husband Chris of Matthews, N.C.; and her four granddaughters, Kirby Tucker, Shelby Tucker, Taylor Boggs Pleiman and husband Nick, and Emma Boggs.
A funeral service celebrating the life of Dorothy will be officiated by her son-in-law, Chris Boggs, on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville. I worked with Dot at Davis Hosptial for a number of years, she was one-of-a-kind and one of the very best in the business.
With a very sharp wit and always a broad smile, talking with her was an adventure every day.
Totally dedicated to Davis, I would vote her as one of the most dependable employees ever!
Her legacy and many of her co-workers, myself included, will always keep her alive in our memories of all the good and fun times working with her, while changing and healing lives.
Rest well, Dot, and know that countless patients’ and their families’ lives were greatly improved & made better by your skills, your caring, and your life!
