The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization (CRTPO) Board awarded funding for 20 transportation projects across its planning area, approving $35,332,319 in federal discretionary grant program funds during its March 19 meeting.

These funds will support critical transportation needs in 14 CRTPO member jurisdictions spanning Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties, helping communities improve mobility.

Mooresville received two awards, totaling more than $2.5 million:

♦ $1,252,099 for the North Main Street Sidewalk and Crossing from Glastonbury Drive to East Mooresville Intermediate School; and
♦ $1,275,150 for Rinehardt Road Sidewalk from Selma Burke Middle School to East Plaza Drive

As the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Charlotte urban area, CRTPO oversees long-range transportation planning and ensures that Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) transportation funds are allocated and spent appropriately. In collaboration with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), CRTPO administers federal discretionary funds to help jurisdictions implement transportation projects, programs, and studies that might otherwise lack funding.
