Debra McCann Thomas, 73, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, of Statesville, N.C., passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025. Debra was born In Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

Her legacy of faith and devotion to all those she knew was limitless. Her life’s experiences included world traveling with her favorite destination being Israel. She was gifted with an artistic flair and loved teaching all ages. With all that she was involved in, her first priority was her family and home, where she enjoyed hosting family gatherings for any number of events. Additionally, her service to her church was an integral part of her life.

Debra is survived by her husband, Edward Thomas; her children Brian (Sarah) McCann, Eric (Sharon) McCann, and Maggie (Jerrod) Hesson; step daughter-in-law Melissa Thomas; brother Ronald (Candace) Fox, sister Charlyn (Eric) Green; grandchildren, Zoe Canfield, Olivia McCann, Maximus McCann, Connor McCann, Lucas McCann, Jaden Hesson, Julianne Hesson, George Hesson, JD Thomas, Matthew Thomas, and Dakotah Thomas, along with a multitude of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband George McCann; her parents Charles and Linda Fox; her brother and sister-in-law, William and Sherrie Fox; stepson Ralph Thomas; and stepdaughters Melissa R. Thomas and Sherrie D. Thomas.

The funeral will be held in the chapel at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy. 70, Black Mountain, NC 28711 on Tuesday, April 1, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to Crossroads Care Clinic, 1710 Davie Avenue, Statesville, NC 28677.
