The candidate filing period for the 2020 elections begins two weeks from Monday on December 2.
There will be seven local judicial races, including the district attorney’s office, on next year’s ballot, along with three local seats in the N.C. General Assembly.
Three seats on the Iredell County Board of Commission are expected to be highly contested. Seven potential candidates have already opened campaign accounts to prepare for the race for three countywide seats, according to the board of elections website
Three seats on the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education (Districts 2, 4 and 6) will also be on the ballot.
Primary Election
Primaries are scheduled for March 3 — with absentee voting beginning on January 13 and One-Stop Early Voting scheduled for February 13-29.
In order to vote in the primary election, you must be registered by February 7.
Candidate Filing Information
Filing for the 2020 elections begins at noon on Dec. 2 and ends at noon on Dec. 20.
According to state statute, no person shall be permitted to file as a candidate in a party primary unless that person has been affiliated with that party for at least 90 days as of the date of that person filing such notice of candidacy. A person registered as “unaffiliated” cannot file as a candidate in a party primary election.
