The number of cases of COVID-19 in Iredell County continues to surge with 139 new cases reported Tuesday by local health officials.

The Iredell County Health Department also reported the county’s 48th death since the onset of the pandemic in March. Health officials do not release personal information about people who test positive, including those who pass away.

There have now been 4,542 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iredell County.

Thirty-one people who have tested positive are currently hospitalized, and 685 others who have contracted COVID-19 are isolating at home in Iredell County.

Health officials estimate that 3,778 people who have tested positive are now recovered, but some may have long-term health issues or impairments.

County officials continue urging residents to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and wash their hands frequently.
