First Presbyterian Church will present a concert featuring Dr. Oliver “Worth” Worthington II, baritone, and Dr. Johan Botes, pianist and organist, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 19.
Both have performed extensively in the U.S. and Europe.
Botes will play the organ and piano, performing a Toccata and Chorale written by Bach and Chopin’s Valse in A flat major before, concluding with the final movement of the Guilmant Organ Concerto.
Together, Botes and Worthington will perform three of Franz Schubert’s most famous songs (Ganymed, Die Forelle, and Der Erlkönig) in the original German and follow that with a selection of art songs from South Africa in Afrikaans.
Additionally, they will perform a song cycle by American composer Tom Cipullo using the poetry of American Poet Laureate Billy Collins. They will end with a set of Broadway songs they both love.
The church is located at 125 N. Meeting Street, Statesville.
An offering will be collected to offset expenses.
