FROM STAFF REPORTS
One woman was fatally injured and a second hurt when they were struck by a pickup truck while standing outside the DMV Office in Statesville on Wednesday morning.
A Toyota Tacoma operated by Linda Christine Price was traveling east on Water Street about 11:37 a.m. when it veered off the road and onto the sidewalk at 121 W. Water Street, according to a Statesville Police Department news release.
The truck continued on the sidewalk and struck Sandra Davidson, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, and then hit Sandra Woodside Hager, police said.
An off-duty EMS employee performed life-saving measures on Hager until Statesville Fire personnel arrived on the scene and took over care of the patient. Hager was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The Toyota Tacoma was not on the scene of the crash. It was later found at 224 Davie Avenue, along with Price, according to the news release.
Price, 73, was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.
The SPD Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
They need to upgrade and move this office into a nice government building.
This DMV is the most inhuman system. Lines of people outside, (healthy, sickly and elderly; makes no difference), waiting in heat, cold, rain. Disgusting.
So true
This is so sad. Prayers go out to both families. The DMV office needs a better facility. They don’t even have restrooms for the public while standing in those long lines. Lines were long even before COVID-19. I was in line right after the accident.
Surprised it hasn’t happened before take some time and relocate the DMV.
It was only a matter of time before this happened. This office has no room. Then to have to line up OUTSIDE. There are plenty of empty buildings in Statesville that they could renovate so people don’t have to be in danger. What a shame!!!!
As much money as they are raking in, they should relocate to another facility capable of handling the flow. People should not have to line up beside the street. Taylorsville office does not have this problem. They have their office in tip-top shape, and there is never a wait.
We need to have more than one DMV in Statesville. This place has been short of help forever. You have to stand in line ever time you go. I have three autos. That means I have to stand in line no less than three times every year.
I just heard. I worked with Sandy Hager at Jantzen years ago and really a sweet lady. This breaks my heart. Thank u Bobbie for reaching out to my daughter. You all are right… this place is dangerous I waited in line outside 20 minutes 2 months ago. They need to make a safer place for the public
