Troutman Mayor Teross Young announced after a brief closed session on Monday that the council has selected Ron Wyatt as the new town manager.
Wyatt will begin working full time in his new position on July 1. Interim Town Manager Jim Freeman will continue his duties until May 31, but will be available for consultation as Wyatt assumes the role to ensure a smooth transition.
“We look forward to working with him and the staff on how to move our town forward,” said Young. “It’s a great day for the Town of Troutman.”
Wyatt, who currently serves as Iredell County Register of Deeds, thanked the council for the thorough and rigorous hiring experience. “It was a lengthy process, and I appreciated the opportunity to go through.”
“I am a resident of Troutman. Of course, I am eager to come back home. I am saddened to leave the position with the county, but this opportunity to come back to Troutman — I still get to serve the citizens and neighbors, and I’m looking forward to doing so.”
“I appreciate the confidence that you have shown in me.”
After the announcement, the council passed unanimous motions to accept Wyatt’s contract, with a July 1 start date, and to have Wyatt start on a part-time basis as manager on June 1.
The official swearing in ceremony is planned for the June council meeting.
Mr. Wyatt does not meet the qualifications the Council listed in the advertisement for Town Manager. Is he resigning from the ABC Board? Will he be a member of International County/City Manager Association? If so, will he follow the ethics standards regarding politics?
