Town of Troutman working to protect community and town staff from novel coronavirus

Town of Troutman officials are taking numerous steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The town issued a public notice signed by Mayor Teross Young Jr. outlining the town’s actions in response to the novel coronavirus.

“The Town of Troutman’s top priority is the health, safety and security of our community and employees,” Young said in the public notice. “Town officials are taking the current spread of COVID-19 very seriously and receiving guidance from the Iredell County Health Department and other governmental partners in monitoring this situation.”

As of Saturday, there have been 184 reported cases of COVID-19 in North Carolina, including two in Iredell County. Across the United States, there have been 15,219 cases, including 201 deaths, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services. 

Troutman officials have implemented the following precautions for at least the next 30 days:

♦ All residents are encouraged to conduct utilities payments with the Town utilizing its online feature at www.troutmannc.gov; or depositing your payment in our Town Hall utilities payment drop box located outside by the Town Hall Drive Up; or by calling the Town offices at 704 528-7600 and making your payment over the phone during normal business hours (Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Additionally, you may email questions to the Town at info@troutmannc.gov.

♦ There will be no walk-in appointments. If a customer needs to meet with a Town Hall employee, such discussion is encouraged to be by phone or by email.

♦ The Town’s Recreation Department will not undertake, endorse, sponsor events/activities or group programs. The outdoor park and greenway remain open but this could change depending upon circumstances. However, in doing so, the Town will not be permitting reservations for such outdoor recreation areas.

♦ Town Hall facilities will not be available for reservation/utilization by private individuals and/or non-governmental organizations.

♦ As much as practical, Public Works and Law Enforcement personnel are encouraged to keep a social distance of six feet from others, utilize hand sanitizations and practice personal safety protection.

♦ There will be no official approved town trips/travel by employees.

♦ Town staff are to make preparations to work from home if such is approved.

♦ Town facilities are to be disinfected multiple times a day.
