The 6th Annual Stop the Violence Cookout is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, at Harris Park.

The annual event celebrates life and young people while promoting non-violence and taking a stand against gun violence.

Sponsored by Statesville residents and the Statesville Branch NAACP, the event features free food, music and entertainment, kids games, and giveaways, including bikes for kids, computers and iPads, and bags of food, and access to resources on safety and support for local residents.

Harris Park is located at 1345 Lerain Court in Statesville
