District Attorney Sarah Kirkman’s Office reported the following dispositions of several cases in Iredell County Superior Court:
♦ Assistant District Attorney Mikko Red Arrow tried the case of State of North Carolina v. William Hannagan during the week of July 12. The jury found Hannagan guilty of Habitual Misdemeanor Assault (a felony), three counts of Communicating Threats and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was sentenced to 6 to 17 months in prison, plus two consecutive sentences of 20 days with 24 months supervised probation. This case involved an altercation at a soccer field between the defendant and his ex-wife’s husband. The defendant struck the victim in the head and body several times and threatened to kill the victim and the police officer who investigated the case. The defendant also threatened the victim with a knife.
♦ Assistant District Attorney Regina Mahoney tried the case of State of North Carolina v. Jadarious Woods during the week of July 12. The jury found Woods guilty of Assault on a Female and was sentenced to 60 days suspended, with 18 months of supervised probation. The defendant and the victim were in a relationship, had recently broken up, and the defendant on the date of the offense assaulted her by slapping her in the face.
♦ On July 8, Johntavious Dodson pleaded guilty to two counts of Attempted Trafficking of MDA/MDMA and Possession of Up to One and One-Half Ounces of Marijuana. He was sentenced to 120 days active, plus two 15 to 27 month sentences suspended with six months active. The defendant was stopped for speeding, and the car smelled of marijuana. A search of the vehicle revealed a tote bag containing 99 grams of suspected ecstasy and more than one-half ounces of marijuana. Assistant District Attorney Mikko Red Arrow prosecuted the case.
♦ On July 7, Ny’Vaesa Davis pleaded guilty to Sale of a Schedule II Controlled Substance and Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 8 to 19 months probation. The defendant sold controlled substances to an undercover officer. Assistant District Attorney Mikko Red Arrow prosecuted the case.
♦ On July 8, Conrad Cvar pleaded guilty to Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest and was sentenced to 6 to 17 months, suspended. The defendant drove a stolen vehicle 130 miles per hour on Interstate 77 in the rain while fleeing from officers. He attempted to exit the interstate at Exit 33 and lost control of the vehicle, going airborne briefly and then rolling over. Assistant District Attorney Josh Green prosecuted the case.
♦ On June 22, Steve Conner pleaded guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He received a sentence of 13 to 25 months, suspended. The defendant was stopped after officers saw the vehicle he was in cross the center line, and they smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers searched the vehicle and found a gun hidden in a glove inside the vehicle. The defendant had previously been convicted for Sale of Cocaine, which made him a convicted felon. Assistant District Attorney Josh Green prosecuted the case.
♦ On June 21, Luis Rodriguez pleaded guilty to Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle. He received a sentence of 10 to 21 months, suspended. Mooresville Police discovered the defendant in the car, which had been reported stolen out of Conover. Assistant District Attorney Josh Green prosecuted the case.
♦ On July 12, Randoll Berumen pleaded guilty to Trafficking in Methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 70 to 93 months in prison. The defendant was stopped for a seatbelt violation by a deputy with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. He consented to a search of his person but reached into his pants before the search. He had a ball of plastic wrap in his pants which contained eight bags of methamphetamine weighing approximately 38 grams. Assistant District Attorney Crystal Beale prosecuted the case.
♦ On July 8, Terry Phillips pleaded guilty to Sex Offender on Child Premises. He received three consecutive sentences of 20 to 33 months in prison. The defendant is a registered sex offender on satellite-based monitoring. The monitoring points showed that the defendant entered Liberty Park in Mooresville multiple times to visit the bathroom, which is within 300 feet of a playground. As a registered sex offender, the defendant is not allowed to be in this area. Deputy Guadalupe of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office obtained video from the park confirming that the defendant was present at the Park. Assistant District Attorney Crystal Beale prosecuted the case.
♦ On July 9, Thomas Wilson pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Sexual Offense and two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child. He was sentenced to 66 to 140 months in prison, plus 20 to 33 months in prison, plus 20 to 33 months in prison. The defendant touched two girls, ages 7 and 5, inappropriately on multiple occasions. Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center was involved with this case, and Assistant District Attorney Crystal Beale was the prosecutor.
♦ On July 12, Rodney Grant II pleaded guilty to Felony Larceny, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Felony Possession of Stolen Goods, Possession of Methamphetamine, Larceny from a Merchant, Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Xanax and Attempted Trafficking in Opiates. He was sentenced to 18 to 31 months in prison, plus 23 to 37 months in prison, plus 10 to 21 months in prison. Assistant District Attorney Josh Green prosecuted the case.
♦ On July 16, Joshua Daniel Cook pleaded guilty to Aggravated Serious Injury By Vehicle, Felony Hit & Run Resulting in Serious Injury and Driving While Impaired. He was sentenced to 30 to 48 months in prison. Assistant District Attorney Mikko Red Arrow prosecuted the case.
Don’t understand why Mario Chow has not been tried for his sex offense case? He has been in jail since Sept. 4, 2018.
