The Mooresville Police Department is asking the public for help apprehending a kidnapping suspect.

According to an MPD news release, Donnie Lee Cherry assaulted and held three occupants of a residence on Lee Street against their will on May 27, 2021.

One of the victims assaulted was a 12-year-old boy who received serious injuries, police said.

Cherry has active warrants for his arrest on the following charges: two counts of first-degree kidnapping, second-degree kidnapping, two counts of interfering with emergency communications, three counts of communicating threats, two counts of assault inflicting serious bodily injury, assault by strangulation, and assault on a female.
