Special to Iredell Free News
The 11th Annual Timmy Belcher Memorial Rainbow Kidz Ride & Run drew a large and enthusiastic crowd on Saturday morning.
More than 250 people participated in the 5K, 10K and cycling events starting from Western Avenue Baptist Church in Statesville, and an additional 25 registered virtually. The Ride & Run supports Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County’s Rainbow Kidz Pediatric Grief Counseling program.
The Ride & Run was started 11 years ago by Timmy Belcher as a way to give back to Rainbow Kidz. Timmy passed away from cancer in 2011, but his legacy lives on in many ways, including this event that has raised over $250,000 for Rainbow Kidz.
“We are blessed to honor Timmy’s memory, and incredibly grateful to this community — our Rainbow Kidz family — for their support of grieving children. What a beautiful and special day this has been,” said Rainbow Kidz Director Leigh Ann Darty.
This year’s event also honored longtime Rainbow Kidz volunteer Cindy Adkins, who passed away last year.
