Piedmont HealthCare adds endocrinologist in Mooresville

Dr. Elaine Sunderlin has joined Piedmont HealthCare’s Endocrinology practice in Mooresville.

Sunderlin, who is board certified in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, will be based out of the PHC specialty office at 170 Medical Park Road.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Sunderlin has been a resident of the Carolinas for the past 13 years. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at James Madison University. She attended medical school at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. After medical school, Sunderlin completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of North Carolina, followed by her fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism at UNC as well.

Sunderlin joins PHC after practicing in South Carolina for the past eight years.

“I have always been drawn to endocrinology because at its roots — it is physiology … how the body works,” she explained. “Coming from a hospital-owned practice, PHC was attractive as a work environment as it is a physician-owned practice.”

Over the past few years, the need for endocrinology in the Mooresville area has significantly increased.
