FROM STAFF REPORTS

An autopsy conducted on the remains of infant who was buried in the backyard of a home in Iredell County last month did not conclusively determine the cause of the baby boy’s death.

The High Point Police Department announced in a news release that the infant’s mother, Olivia N. Billington, 19, and Alex H. Best, 21, both of Iredell County, had both been charged with felony concealment of death.

The HPPD and Iredell County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation in early September after law enforcement officials were notified that the infant had been buried in Iredell County.

Detectives assigned to HPPD’s Special Victims Unit traveled to Iredell County after determining the incident originated in High Point.

According to the news release, Billington gave birth to the baby boy on September 4 in the City of High Point.

No notifications or medical treatment were sought by either Billington or Best, and on September 6 Best transported the deceased infant to his residence in Iredell County, where he buried it on his property, police said.
