Special to Iredell Free News
Registration is under way for the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Teen Academy.
The ICSO Teen Academy, which meets on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings from July 6-22, is designed by Sheriff Darren Campbell to engage teenagers and help them learn how to handle issues they deal with every day. These challenges include transitioning from middle school to high school, peer pressure, social media, texting, bullying and drugs just to name a few.
The free program provides positive adult role models along with real-life learning experiences to teach participants alternative ways to deal with complex social issues. Instructors mix practical hands-on demonstrations with a teen-focused message in order to make learning fun. Along the way the students and deputies get to make friendships which foster lasting relationships as a result of the experience.
