FROM STAFF REPORTS
An eastern Iredell County man who was free on bond while awaiting trial on child pornography charges has been arrested again and charged with similar offenses.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the latest arrest of Michael Ray Hawkins, 66, in a news release Tuesday.
The ICSO began investigating between November 2020 and January 2021 after receiving two cyber tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
The case was assigned to Detective Cody James of the Special Victims Unit.
Based on evidence gathered in this case, the detective obtained two felony arrest warrants charging Hawkins with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Hawkins was arrested on Saturday, January 30, and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was served with the felony warrants. Magistrate Imes issued a $10,000 secured bond on the two new charges.
The suspect was released on a $250,000 bond stemming from a case in which he was charged with 10 counts of felony third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor by the ICSO Special Victims Unit in June 2020.
Arrested a second time for the same offense and the bond was only $10,000?? Why isn’t he spending time in a cell?
