District Attorney Sarah Kirkman’s office announced the following felony convictions in Iredell County Superior Court:
♦ Lisa Edwards pleaded guilty to trafficking opium/heroin on May 11 and received a sentence of 70 to 93 months active to be served in the N.C. Department of Adult Correction. She was also ordered to pay a $50,000 fine, which is mandatory under the drug trafficking statutes. This conviction stemmed from a traffic stop conducted by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy M. Talbert on April 1, 2019, where deputies found trafficking amount of methadone and documentation regarding the trading of the methadone for pills. The substance was sent to NMS Labs by the ICSO, and a report by NMS Labs confirmed that the substance was methadone, a Schedule II opioid.
♦ Samuel Young pleaded guilty on May 24 to statutory sex offense and two counts of indecent liberties with a child. He was sentenced to 75 to 99 months to be served in the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, followed by two consecutive suspended sentences of 15 to 18 months.
♦ Cody Choate pleaded guilty on May 26 to numerous charges, including assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was sentenced to 26 to 44 months in the N.C. Department of Adult Correction. The assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury charge stemmed from the defendant stabbing the victim.
