Iredell-Statesville Schools had eight schools participate in the Odyssey of the Mind virtual regional competition this year.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students. Participants are asked to think creatively and outside of the box. They may demonstrate their solutions through building, creating, acting, and/or presentation. Team members must work together to develop innovative solutions to solve problems.
The Brawley School, Lake Norman High School and South Iredell High School OM teams all received state wins and are heading to the World Competition.
Board members recognized the winners during their May 9 school board meeting.
The Lake Norman High School Team received First Place in Division III on Problem #3. This problem involved taking a classic tale of a historical figure and turning it into a biographical musical performance. This team is coached by Amy McBride. Team Members Include: Brody McBride, Darby McBride, Towner Akers, Chloe Thompson, Abigail Woody and Reese Wilson.
The Brawley School received First Place in Division II on Problem #3 as described above. This team is coached by Mandy Saake. Team Members Include: Athan Saake, Caden Stramenga, Alexis Ramsey, Cameron Dale, Owen Meade, Grady Wilson and Serah Ann Mobin.
South Iredell High School won Third Place in Division III on Problem #1 where the team had to create and design vehicles to assist a group of characters in escaping an unusual room. This team is coached by Lili Bonomo. Team members include: Gabriel Bonomo, Angelina Klepp, Carlisle O’Neill, Charity Singalreddy, Andrew Juhasz, Andrew Getsee and Emily Verolme.
