Mooresville High School staff received an automated message on Tuesday morning that conveyed a potential bomb threat to the school.
School officials immediately alerted the MHS school resource officer and Mooresville Police Department.
All MHS facilities were immediately evacuated.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office K9 units trained in explosives detection were brought in at 10:15 a.m. to search the school.
Due to the amount of time needed to adequately clear the building, officials made a decision to dismiss students for the day. Dismissal and reunification were complete at 11:16 a.m.
Law enforcement found no evidence of an explosive device and determined there was no danger to staff or students at 1:04 p.m.
Due to recent similar incidences in surrounding counties, MPD officers will continue to investigate the incident and work with local agencies to ascertain if the incidents are connected.
