Mooresville Police Department officers responded to a reported traffic crash on Timber Road near the intersection of Shearers Road at approximately 12:25 p.m. on Thursday.
After arriving on scene, officers discovered that a Ford Mustang and a Dodge Ram pickup truck had been involved in the collision.
A passenger in the Ford Mustang, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Joseph Rich of Mooresville, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained during the crash, police said. The driver of the Ford Mustang was transported to CMC Main in Charlotte for treatment of injuries sustained during the crash, according to the MPD. There were no other occupants of the Ford Mustang.
The Dodge Ram truck was occupied by two adults and two small children, who were all transported to LNRMC for treatment and released. The two small children were secured in proper child safety restraints and did not receive serious injuries, police said.
Officers with MPD’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene to investigate the accident. Based on evidence collected at the scene, it appears the driver of the Ford Mustang lost control and the vehicle crossed the center line and was struck in the passenger door by the Dodge Ram, police said.
This investigation is still ongoing, but it currently appears that speeding was a contributing factor in the accident, according to the MPD.
The Mooresville Police Department was assisted at the scene of the accident by Mooresville Fire-Rescue and Iredell County EMS personnel.
