South Iredell High School officially kicked off its Homecoming Week celebrations with a parade through Troutman on Tuesday evening. Supporters lined Eastway Drive and Old Murdock Road to cheer on the parade participants.

The MJROTC led the parade with the color guard and a contingent of cadets, followed by the Viking band blasting some pep-inducing tunes. Homecoming queen and princess nominees followed in cars, with floats featuring the varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders and several clubs also showing their school spirit.

The junior varsity and varsity football teams next marched, fired up to beat Homecoming opponents the Mooresville High School Blue Devils this week. At the end of the parade, Principal Robert Little waved at spectators as he rode a golf cart behind the football players.

The school has planned a number of dress-up activities to spark students’ school spirit, including Monday’s Wacky-Tacky Day, Tuesday’s Tropical Day, Wednesday’s Twins Day, Thursday’s Throwback Day, and Friday’s School Colors Day (9th yellow, 10th White, 11th Black, 12th Blue) and pep rally.

The JV Football game is at MHS at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The varsity will take on the Blue Devils at home on Friday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. The SIHS Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, October 8, from 7 to 10 p.m. in the PAC.
