A Lake Norman High School student faces a misdemeanor weapons charge following a road rage incident on Highway 150.
Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Ethan Van Goodman, 18, of Jennymarie Road, Mooresville, in a news release Friday.
On Thursday, about 8:10 a.m., Iredell County Emergency Communications received a call about a silver Toyota truck occupied by two young males on Highway 150 near in Mooresville, Campbell said. The caller reported that one of the young men was waving a gun at the caller and that the truck appeared to be traveling toward Lake Norman High School.
Deputy Joshua Kanupp, the School Resource Officer at Lake Norman High, was immediately notified about the suspect truck. A short time later Kanupp observed the suspect truck as it pulled onto the campus, according to the news release.
The SRO conducted a traffic stop on the truck and identified Goodman and another male juvenile in the passenger side seat of the truck, Campbell said.
After Deputy Kanupp investigated the incident further, he determined a road rage incident had occurred between the caller and the suspect vehicle on Highway 150, Campbell said. During the incident, Goodman displayed what appeared to be a firearm to the other driver, according to the news release.
The firearm was located and determined to be an Airsoft pistol, which resembled an actual gun, according to the news release.
Goodman was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor possession of a weapon on school property, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor. Lake Norman High School administration was made aware of the incident, as well, and will be following the district’s policy on disciplinary procedures related to this event.
