FROM STAFF REPORTS

An Iredell-Statesville School’s teacher who was free on bond sex charges involving a minor faces additional charges as a result of an ongoing investigation by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Elizabeth Bailey

Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey, 36, of Bluff Court, Statesville, was served with two additional warrants on Monday charging her with felony statutory sex offense with a child and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

These new charges stem from information obtained from a family member of the victim who came forward and notified Special Victims Unit detectives about additional evidence showing the extent of the relationship between Bailey and the victim, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.

Bailey was taken into custody by Warrant Squad deputies and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Magistrate Callejas issued a $50,000 secured bond on these new charges.

She previously had been released on a $75,000 secured bond and is currently on electronic house arrest.

Bailey became the subject of an ICSO investigation on July 20 when the Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding a teacher possibly having had a sexual relationship with a student.

The investigation was assigned to Detective Elliott Lane, who is assigned to the Special Victims Unit.

Based on the evidence gathered throughout this investigation, Bailey was charged with Felony Statutory Rape of a Person who is 15 Years of Age or Younger, Felony Indecent Liberties with a Minor, and Felony Sexual Activity with a Student.

She turned herself in on August 1.

Bailey has been suspended with pay by I-SS, according to a district news release. She works at Northview Academy (formerly Pressly School) as a science teacher. She was first employed by I-SS in February 2010 as an assistant. She has also served as an exceptional children’s teacher.
