The legal troubles continue to mount for an Iredell-Statesville Schools teacher accused of having an illegal sexual relationship with a student.
Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey, 36, of Bluff Court, Statesville, faces 27 additional criminal charges as the result of an ongoing investigation by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit investigators.
Bailey, who was employed as a science teacher at Northview Academy at the time of her initial arrest, was taken into custody by members of the ICSO Warrant Squad on Friday.
On August 1, she charged with Felony Statutory Rape of a Person who is 15 Years of Age or Younger, Felony Indecent Liberties with a Minor, and Felony Sexual Activity with a Student.
While Bailey was free on bond, the juvenile victim in the case has visited her house nine different times, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.
As a condition of her pretrial release, Bailey was ordered to stay away from the juvenile victim in this case.
Based on new evidence obtained by SUV investigators, 27 charges were filed against Bailey on Friday. She was arrested at her home and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where she was charged with nine counts of Misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, nine counts of Felony Intimidating or Interfering with a State Witness, and nine counts of Felony Violation of Pre-Trial Release Conditions.
Bailey appeared before Magistrate Thompson, who issued an $800,000 secured bond on these charges.
This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may follow, Campbell said.
I-SS officials suspended Bailey following her arrest on August 1.
