Two suspects face additional charges in connection with a shooting on Vernon Lane last month following an investigation by the Statesville Police Department.
Cpl. Christy Cleary obtained warrants charging Jaheim Tavares Vandiver, 21, of Kilcullen Drive, Charlotte with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault by strangulation, and possession of firearm by felon.
The SPD investigator also obtained warrants charging Tahilyia Amari Mitchell, 18, of Perimeter Station Road, Charlotte, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm within city limits, assault by pointing a gun, and communicating threats.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred around 8:20 a.m. on September 22 in the 300 block of Vernon Lane.
When patrol officers arrived on the scene, they located a subject in the road suffering from a gunshot wound to the left leg. Patrol officers began rendering first aid to the victim, who provided a description of the suspects and the suspect vehicle, police said.
Vandiver and Mitchell were taken into custody following a pursuit initiated by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies that ended when the suspect vehicle crashed in Mecklenburg County.
