David McDonald says:
Davis was purchased by Community Health Systems in 2019. A Chinese billionaire owner 22% of CHS.
Just a fact found on Google.
The whole deal is an underhanded deal for Iredell County.

Expand the 24/7 Medical Expertise at the Iredell Mooresville location. So many here travel to Statesville for a higher quality of Medical Expertise than is currently offered at the Mooresville Urgent Care Center. This change will help to alleviate the strain on Statesville ER and greatly enhance quality of care offered at the Mooresville Urgent
Care to facilitate a Mooresville ER Center.

Sadly we have been on the short end of the stick in a time of great emergency recently and ended up traveling to Winston to get the Emergency care I would have thought would be available here. I do understand that Iredell is strained and feel that Davis acted in poor form by closing so quickly. The reality though is that it has left a gap that can cost lives. As a former ER nurse, it would be so helpful to have a 24/7 urgent care near the hospital to address less urgent issues and from the seats of the waiting room I would ask that community members be aware of the burden on the system. A sinus allergy is not an emergency. You throwing up one time is not an emergency. Sprains and strains can be handled in urgent cares more efficiently. When a person goes to a chest pain accredited facility and sits in the waiting room visibly in discomfort being told it could be hours before they can be placed on a bed, the hospital is at risk of losing accreditation and we can’t afford that. Triage must be better. Community members must seek care in appropriate settings, and we all have to do our part to make it through this. Davis demonstrated no regard for our community and is spinning this to say they are filling the gap in mental health. Sadly, I know their corporate committment to this area of care from the inside and I’m sad to say the corporate leadership is not concerned about our mental health patients. They’ve demonstrated that already many times. They are only interested in making money and because they could not compete, they left our community in dire circumstances. They announced plans to close by years end and closed 8/24.
Iredell: keep working the problem. I’m sad we couldn’t get care locally when we needed it this time but we need you to grow.

I always used Davis Hospital for my family’s care. How many of you did the same? How many of you complained that Davis was too far to travel to or “don’t take me to Davis” if they were non-emergent ambulance patients? Yes, the closing could have been handled much differently, but if the community supports only one of two facilities, what do you expect will happen?
