C.R. Onsrud, a family-owned machinery manufacturing company, broke ground on March 1 for the construction of a new 67,000-square-foot building.
This addition will increase the C.R. Onsrud manufacturing campus in Troutman to 225,000 square feet. The new building will house production of their larger machines as well as additional offices.
“We feel very fortunate to be in a position of growth and opportunity, investing in the future of manufacturing, and the positive impact this has on the people in our local community,” said CEO Tom Onsrud. “And I think our customers will be pleased because now we’ll have the space to make more machines — especially the large ones — and ship them out faster.”
This new construction is part of a multi-phase expansion project that includes a 9,900-square-foot expansion of the existing machine shop along with purchase of new equipment to increase production capacity. The expansion is currently in its final stages with the new equipment being installed. This project represents a $17 million reinvestment into the business for the new building, expansion and equipment.
The company expects this investment will add another 50 to 100 positions to its vertically integrated headquarters in Troutman. Currently, C.R. Onsrud employs approximately 200 individuals, including welders, machinists, painters, product assemblers, engineers, sales and administrative staff. “With the huge demand for manufacturers to produce more faster, our CNC machine tool manufacturing business has boomed. We need the floorspace, and I’m really looking forward to growing our team,” said Onsrud. “A company is nothing without its people.”
The new building is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2024.
C.R. Onsrud expressed its appreciation to the Town of Troutman, Iredell County, Iredell County Economic Development Corporation, and SouthState Bank for their assistance with this project.
Since 1976, from their factory in Troutman, C.R. Onsrud has designed and engineered advanced CNC machining solutions for a wide range of industries, including aerospace, marine, woodworking, composites. The Onsrud family has been in the machining business for over a century.
“When we started the company,” said Tom Onsrud, “I never imagined a facility of this magnitude, but here we are. We are excited to be a part of the resurgence in U.S. manufacturing that helps fuel the U.S. economy, innovation, and jobs.”

Hopefully the people that get voted out in November do something about the infrastructure first instead of jobs. Maybe the officials in office need a state job running a shovel. Cause it sure seems they are too good for that. Unemployment line is waiting for their applications!
