Special to Iredell Free News
The Statesville Civic Center hosted an Exceptional Children’s Prom on Thursday. Schools throughout Iredell County provided support to those students wishing to attend.
Students had the opportunity to visit prom closets and the Goodwill, and receive donations for formal attire for the event.
Schools provided all transportation for the afternoon Surf’s Up Prom to ensure students could attend.
This prom was provided to the students free of charge. There was a photo booth through Epic Moments, Chick-fil-A donated $1,000 for food through a grant, and the Special Olympics paid for the venue for the afternoon. DJ Scott Vaughn donated his services.
Staff helped students get their hair ready and look sharp for an afternoon of fun! Students who attend the Career Academy and Technical School had the opportunity to receive a manicure from the Mitchell manicuring students in the building.
Teachers and staff from all schools have contributed to the event. CATS Exceptional Children Teacher Amy Commer works tirelessly to make sure students have meaningful experiences and feel like they have a community to lean on.
