The Mooresville Downtown Commission (MDC) has presented Southern Notions business owner and MDC Board Member Stephanie Hathaway with the Russ Crimi Above and Beyond Award.
MDC Board Chair Kim Saragoni bestowed Hathaway with the distinction at the Downtown Mooresville Annual Banquet in July. The award, named in honor of Mooresville Police Public Safety Officer Russ Crimi, represents a revered level of appreciation for those who demonstrate consistent and valued commitment to Downtown Mooresville.
Hathaway opened Southern Notions in March of 2020. The business offers a unique shopping experience featuring home décor, furniture, gifts, and interior design services. Her dedication to personal customer interactions, exquisite home products, upscale services at a reasonable price, and support for her fellow businesses has made her business highly successful.
“Stephanie immediately understood the sense of community in Downtown,” Saragoni explained. “She got involved right away and lent her creativity to innovative concepts for merchants to stand out. She contributed to expanded event ideas focusing on the promotion of our Downtown entrepreneurial businesses, including our now annual Sweetheart Sip & Shop and Christmas in July events, as well as this year’s inaugural #LoveDTM campaign.”
Hathaway, who officially joined the MDC Board in 2022, also spearheaded and currently manages a more efficient volunteer system to help Downtown events be even more successful. The MDC volunteers amass close to 3,000 hours a year and have contributed a community value of over $208,000 in the last three years.
Hathaway’s shop is located at 178 N Main Street.
