The Iredell County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will consider adopting a resolution in support of life from conception through all stages of development.
The meeting, which is open to the public, is at Iredell County Government Center, located at 200 South Center Street in Statesville, at 7 p.m.
According to the resolution:
“The Commissioners believe the life of the unborn must be protected and preserved, understanding that there may be unfortunate and difficult decisions in circumstances of rape, incest and risk to the health and life of the mother; and
“Whereas, the Commissioners desire to express their deep concern that the life of the unborn, our children, the sick and the elderly of our County and elsewhere, is unique and precious at every stage of development.”
If approved, the resolution will be sent to all clerks and to the boards of the other 99 counties requesting that they adopt similar resolutions.
OTHER BUSINESS
In other matters, the board will conduct a public hearing and consider adopting an economic development incentive for Project Buzz. The economic development incentive is for up to $103,452 over a five-year period based on the company’s investment of up to $9.4 million and contingent upon a contract being executed within 180 days.
The board will also consider a request from Iredell-Statesville Schools for a sewer easement. Redwood Statesville James Farm Road NC P1 LLC is requesting a sewer easement across Cloverleaf Elementary School because they intend to develop land. Redwood Statesville has agreed to pay I-SS $22,500 for the easement. If approved, the school system will deposit the purchase price into their Capital Fund.
During the meeting, the board will also:
♦ Consider a request from Emergency Communications for approval of a resolution supporting the reclassification of telecommunicators. According to the county memo, the bipartisan legislation to reclassify 911 Telecommunicators from Office of Administrative Support to Protective Service Occupations in the Office of Management and Budget’s Standards Occupational Classification catalog.
♦ Consider a request from Solid Waste for approval to accept a grant from N.C. Department of Environmental Quality for Abandoned Manufactured Home Clean-ups.
♦ Consider a request from the Finance Department for approval to award auditing services to Martin Starnes & Associates, CPAs, PA based on a competitive bidding process and approve the contract.
Never has so much hot air been bloviated about nothing. If the idea is to just go ahead and vote on it so they don’t have to keep getting harangued about it, I’m afraid that will only encourage the culture warriors to come back with more nonsense on another topic.
The items listed under “Other Business” are examples of what county commissioners are elected to consider. They are not elected to become judges of the county’s morals. The commissioners should stop misrepresenting their personal views as those of the people of Iredell County. Instead, they should stick to what they were elected to do.
It is not for elected politicians to decide what religion their constituents must follow. This declaration of theirs may fall in line with their supposed “Christian” beliefs, but it does not reflect the beliefs of all faiths. Stop it. You are elected for civil governance, not to be morality/religious police.
Iredell commissioners need to find something to do that is productive for Iredell Co. This resolution is a ridiculous waste of time and hot air. Stay out of the reproductive rights of women. If you are pro-life do something for all the starving kids, the school lunch debt, overcrowded and underperforming schools, foster care system, affordable daycare and the housing crisis so when you pro-birthers force young girls to have children, they will be fed and have a roof over their head. Your constituents expect better!
Refreshing! Finally the board passes a long overdue statement about the value of human life in the county. The resolution matches language in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. It affirms what every biology text at our state universities claim as scientific fact, that life in mammals begins at conception. This resolution perfectly matches the Republican platform regarding life so it’s not fringe. It also happens to match beliefs of almost every major orthodox faith in the county. Bravo commissioners.
