The Iredell County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing Tuesday to consider revisions to the pay reclassification and promotion plan in the county’s personnel ordinance.

The board meeting, which is open to the public, will take place at 6 p.m. inside the Iredell Government Center, located at 200 S. Center Street in Statesville, in the commissioners’ meeting room upstairs.

According to county officials, the revisions are part of an effort to retain good employees and decrease turnover. Officials also hope it reduces costs for recruiting and training new employees.

The proposed changes in Article II, the pay and position classification plan, sections 5 & 10, would provide improved salary increases for employees who are promoted and reclassifications. Currently, a standard promotion results in a 9 percent increase and a reclassification results in a standard 5 percent increase.

If approved, the changes to the personnel ordinance will increase the salary budget, additional contributions of FICA and result in additional contributions to the Local Government Retirement System and the 401(k) plan.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other matters, the board will hear the county’s Child Fatality Prevention Team’s Annual Report. This report reviews individual child deaths to help communities understand why children are dying and provide solutions to reduce fatalities in the future.

The report is for information purposes and will examine the causes of death, age of death and other data. It will be presented by Chair Amanda Treadway.

Also, during the meeting, the board will:

♦ Consider a request from Emergency Medical Services to proclaim May 21-27 as Emergency Medical Services Week.

♦ Hear an update from Department of Social Services on Older Americans Month.

♦ Hear an update on Foster Care Appreciation Month.

♦ Consider a request to call for public hearing on Tuesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. to consider the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 budget.

♦ Consider a request from Tax Administration for approval of the April 2023 Refunds and Releases.
