The Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office has completed its investigation of a home explosion that claimed the life of an NFL player’s father earlier this month.
Investigators determined the cause was a natural gas explosion with an unknown point of origin, Iredell County Emergency Management officials said in a news release Tuesday.
First responders found the body of Robert M. Farley, 61, while they were sifting through the rubble of 6,391-squae foot home located at 292 Barber Loop near Mooresville about four hours after the August 22 explosion. There was no evidence of foul play, officials said earlier.
Farley is the father of Caleb Farley, a player for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans. The younger Farley was not at the home at the time of the explosion.
A family friend was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after he walked out of the collapse home.
Emergency officials said further investigation into the cause and origin of the fire cannot be continued due to the instability of the remaining structure. Any remaining investigations will be conducted by the owner’s insurance provider.
