Laura Kerzwick has been hired as the new director of radiation therapy for Iredell Health System.
She has over 33 years of experience in radiation therapy and has held positions at Battle Creek Health System, Western Maryland Health System, and Mission Health.
Growing up in a healthcare-oriented family, Kerzwick found her passion for helping others early in life and has never doubted her decision to join the medical field.
“It never occurred to me to go into any other field. I started my journey at a hospital-based radiologic technology program, and on the eve of my first day, I lost my best friend to cancer,” she said. “That previous year I was blessed with the opportunity to spend time with her and occasionally take her to treatment. When she passed, I wanted nothing more than to provide exceptional care to oncology patients.”
As the d irector of Radiation Therapy, Kerzwick is eager to help grow Iredell Health System’s Radiation Therapy Department while continuing to provide comprehensive, personalized care to patients.
“The heart and soul of my role is to make sure our patients receive the best care and that our staff is highly engaged and love what they do for a living. Because I have experience that encompasses infusion as well as radiation, I am excited to find ways to grow our program to be comprehensive and care for our oncology patients entirely,” said Kerzwick.
Kerzwick received her bachelor’s degree in healthcare management from the University of St. Francis. She later earned her Master of Health Science from Western Carolina University. She is a certified radiation therapist and radiologic technologist and is also certified in basic life support.
In her free time, Kerzwick enjoys traveling to exciting new destinations with her husband Jim. She also enjoys crocheting and considers herself a hobby photographer, capturing special moments of her five grandchildren and 15-year-old Shih Tzu. She also loves to volunteer and has recently become involved in the Trevor Project, which focuses on suicide prevention in LGBTQ+ youth.
