Statesville resident Lisa Mozer announced on Thursday that she has started the process for qualifying to run for the 84th District seat in the N.C. House of Representatives as an unaffiliated candidate.
Mozer will be asking voters to sign a petition so she can secure a place on the ballot for the November 7 General Election.
“Voters in Iredell County want to see their concerns addressed,” Mozer said in her official campaign announcement.
If elected, Mozer said she would push for overdue investments in Iredell County communities.
“We want to feel safe at home, we want our neighborhoods to be valued parts of our city and not overlooked wasted areas,” she explained. “Instead of ‘knocking down’ what needs to be built up and made better, we can plan and invest in our communities and create opportunities for our youth.”
Mozer touted her efforts to champion preservation for local African American historical landmarks as an example of her work. She said she would push for transparency in public planning to include old neighborhoods, and she said she would advocate for seniors.
“We see taxes pushing senior residents to the edge, and it’s time we send reinforcement to ‘help out’ and not ‘put out,’ “she said.
Mozer is currently self-employed as a project organizer. She works out of her downtown Statesville office.
A former meteorologist for the Weather Channel, she is a retired military service member and retired public school teacher. She holds a B.A. in communications, a master’s degree in safety systems, and a doctorate in education.
“Statesville is my hometown,” she said, “and having roots here is important enough for me to keep working.”
Mozer hopes registered voters will sign her petition to help her stay on the job.
Rep. Jeff McNeely (R-Stony Point) currently represents the 84th District in the N.C. House.
Candidate filing for most contests in the 2024 elections begins at 12 noon on Monday, December 4, and ends at noon on Friday, December 15.
