A Mooresville man faces felony drug and weapons charges after a brief standoff with officers ended in the suspect’s arrest on Wednesday.

The Mooresville Police Department announced the arrest of Zachary Dominic LaForce, 26, in a news release Wednesday.

About 7:17 a.m. on Wednesday, MPD officers responded to a report of a car stopped in the intersection of Oak Street and Statesville Avenue, police said.

As officers approached the car in question, they encountered LaForce, who was unresponsive and armed with a handgun, according to the news release. After a brief standoff, officers removed the LaForce — who was the sole occupant — from the car and placed him under arrest.

During the arrest, officers seized a handgun, cocaine, other narcotics, and cash from the driver’s possession, according to the news release.

LaForce was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession with the intent to sell or deliver cocaine, felony possession of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, felony maintaining a vehicle for the use or sell of controlled substance, two misdemeanor drug offenses and misdemeanor resist, delay, or obstruct an officer.

LaForce was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $25,000 secured bond.
