A Mooresville man faces drug and gun charges after being detained at the the scene of a single-vehicle crash off Hillside Drive earlier this week.

The Mooresville Police Department announced the arrest of Talian Jacques Troutman, 28, of Shinnville Road, Mooresville in a news release.

MPD officers were dispatched to the area of W. Wilson Avenue on Monday in reference to a report of reckless driving involving a truck spinning tires and traveling at a high rate of speed, police said.

While officers were enroute to the scene, MPD Communications received a report of a similar vehicle being involved in a traffic crash on Hillside Drive, according to the news release. Upon their arrival, officers found a 2023 Ford F-150 in the woods off the side of the roadway.

Officers located the driver, identified as Troutman, walking away from the scene of the crash, police said.

When officers reached the truck, they noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, according to the news release. During a search of the vehicle, the officers found approximately 65 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of fentanyl, 100 grams of marijuana, 35 pills of Alprazolam, a stolen 9mm pistol, and over $900 in cash, police said.

Troutman was charged with two counts of Felony Trafficking Opiates (Fentanyl), two counts of Felony Trafficking Cocaine, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Fentanyl, Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine, Felony Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Schedule IV Controlled Substance (Alprazolam), Felony Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle to Keep/Sell Controlled Substance, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and a misdemeanor drug offense.

Troutman was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center under a $2.5 million secured bond.

According to the MPD, Troutman’s criminal history includes convictions for Felony Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Felony Assault Inflicting Serious Injury on Law Enforcement/Probation Officer, and two counts of Felony Common Law Robbery.
