Eight Iredell-Statesville Schools students competed at the North Carolina State FFA Horse Evaluation Career Development Event in Williamston on Saturday, April 15.

The Senior Team, representing North Iredell High, ASEC and I-SS secured third place in the Northwest Region and 14th place (out of 35 teams) in the state at this event. Team members are Lanie Estes, Brooke Stewart, Carley Stafford and Soleil Steeb.

The Junior Team secured first place in the Northwest Region and sixth place in the state. Team members are Wyatt Cline, Kara Murdock, Tanner McDaniels and Bailey May.

Wyatt Cline was the high individual overall in the junior contest (out of 50 contestants).

The purpose of the Horse Evaluation Career Development Event is to stimulate students’ interest in equine selection, management and production. This career development event also provides recognition for those who have demonstrated outstanding achievement as a result of instruction in equine science.

Skills such as selection and management of horses, communicating industry terminology effectively, in addition to evaluating and justifying decisions are attained through participation in this event.
