Congressman Patrick McHenry recently recognized several local students who earned appointments to military service academies.
“It is always an honor to congratulate our newest Tenth District appointees to America’s military service academies,” said Rep. McHenry. “My Military Advisory Committee and I had the pleasure of spending time with these outstanding young people, and I am proud they will be representing the 10th District at our fine service academies.
“I commend Hailey Froh, Chase Dixon, and Davis Withers on choosing service to our country, and I wish them all the best of luck.”
Hailey Froh
Hailey Froh has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy after being nominated by the congressman. She also received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Froh is the daughter of Courtney and Nathan Froh. She grew up as a military child, resides with her family in Catawba, and recently graduated from Lake Norman High School. A scholar-athlete while at Lake Norman High, she was captain of the swim team, a Mecklenburg Nation year-round swimmer, secretary of the student council, vice president of Crosby Scholars and chair of the STEM Club. She also found time to give back to her community by volunteering at the local food bank and her church.
Chase Dixon
Chase Dixon has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy after being nominated by the congressman.
He is the son of Celine and Kirt Dixon. After living in South Africa and Germany, Dixon and his family now reside in Mooresville, where he recently graduated from Lake Norman High School. A scholar-athlete while at Lake Norman High School, he was captain of the rugby team, president of Crosby Scholars, skipper of the sailing team, saxophone lead in the Wind Ensemble and founder of the Teen Giving Circle. His regional activities include the Fox Run Equestrian IEA team, Charlotte Cardinals Rugby high school team, Hough High School Rugby team and Triangle Area Polo Club as well as serving as a USA Rugby referee and coach. He also found time to give back to his community by volunteering at the local food bank and his church.
Davis Withers
Davis Withers has accepted an appointment to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy after being nominated by the congressman.
He is the son of Dayne Withers and Rosalind and John Moore. Withers and his family reside in Newton, where he recently graduated from Saint Stephens High School while also enrolled at Catawba Valley Community College. A scholar-athlete while at Saint Stephens High, he was Commanding Officer of the JROTC unit, captain of the lacrosse team, co-captain of the orienteering team, founder of the International Club, officer in both the Dream Team and Athletic Leadership club, and a Jumpstart program counselor. He also found time to give back to his community by volunteering at the local soup kitchen, animal shelter, and with a veterans’ group.
