A suspect in two break-ins faces felony charges after an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office canine tracked her scent for more than a quarter mile, enabling deputies to apprehend her.
Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Chelsea Rose Wilson, 38, of no fixed address in a news release Wednesday.
ICSO deputies were dispatched to a home off James Farm Road on Tuesday, May 9, in reference to a breaking and entering in progress, Campbell said.
While responding to the scene, the deputies received additional information that the suspect was inside the residence. When the deputies arrived, they learned the female suspect had fled from the home on foot after stealing multiple items from the residence, according to the news release.
A perimeter was quickly established and ICSO Sgt. N. Hodges responded to the scene with his canine partner Levi to attempt to locate the suspect.
Levi detected a scent trail left by the suspect and tracked the suspect for a quarter mile before locating the female, Campbell said. The suspect, later identified as Chelsea Wilson, was taken into custody without further incident, according to the news release.
While investigating the home break-in, the deputies learned Wilson had also broken into another house still under construction, the sheriff said.
Wilson was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where she was charged with two counts of Felony Breaking and Entering and Felony Larceny. She appeared before Magistrate Callejas, who issued a $4,000 secured bond for these charges.
I would be pissed if this was my house she just entered and stole from and was issued only a $4000 bond ! Post $400 bail and you’re free until your hearing. Dang !!!
